As the area’s leading facility in cardiovascular programs, SMHC is the home of the Outpatient Cardiac Risk Reduction Center, specializing in the identification, prevention and management of chronic cardiovascular conditions. Services are provided for individuals who have a pre-existing cardiac condition and those who are at risk for developing cardiac disease.
Our multidisciplinary team of clinicians and Board-certified cardiologists stands ready to help patients identify Risk Factors related to cardiovascular disease, and to help them make the appropriate changes to improve and protect their health. Patients receive one-on-one education about risks and management of existing conditions.

Our Cardiac Risk reduction Program is for anyone who wishes to prevent heart disease, has multiple risk factors or already has an existing cardiac disease. Our skilled medical staff and specially trained team will provide guidance and caring as you begin your journey to heart health. Changing lifestyle behaviors can be difficult and complex. Receiving one on one support makes this process more successful. The multidisciplinary team consists of Board certified Cardiologists, Registered Nurses, Exercise Physiologists, Dieticians, and Pharmacists. Your personalized assessment includes:

When does Risk Management begin? The most recent recommendations from the AHA target heart attack prevention to start at age 20. It’s never too early or too late to begin a journey to heart health. We can steer you toward a healthy life by assisting you in managing your inherited risk factors and teaching you about your risk factors that can be changed.
The Cardiac Risk Reduction Center is located in the new Cardiac Wing between the hospital and professional building. Appointments and referrals can be made by calling (301) 877-4661. The Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
There are evening appointments available for patients that need more flexible scheduling.
