Hospital Founder Honored for a Life of Philanthropy
Southern Maryland Hospital Center (SMHC) founder and President Dr. Francis P. Chiaramonte was recently inducted into the Philanthropy Hall of Fame by the Community Foundation of Charles County. Dr. Chiaramonte was recognized as one of the few “who go beyond the call of duty by not only giving back to the community, but giving more.” In addition to founding SMHC, Dr. Chiaramonte has developed wellness programs, built community clinics, and donated substantially to the College of Southern Maryland.
Hailed as a visionary leader who has worked to improve healthcare in Southern Maryland for over 30 years, Dr. Chiaramonte accepted his award at the organization’s Philanthropy Day luncheon on November 20, 2009. “Healthcare and education are the pillars of our community’s well-being,” he said. “I have, therefore, dedicated my life to those values.”
